The First 3 Days

Waking Up A Sleepy Baby

In the first 3 days your body is in the process of building a milk supply that will fully sustain your baby and your baby needs frequent feedings for her growth and development. It is a honeymoon between you and your baby.

It is essential for both the establishment of your milk supply and your baby needs to continue to wake the baby if he is not waking himself. Some people or books may tell you that you should never wake a sleeping baby, and if you follow this you can decrease your milk supply.

Pumping for the Hard to Pump Mother

In the first 3 days I highly recommend going to a quiet place with your baby, alone. I highly recommend an automatic pump in the honeymoon time. While pumping, squeeze about two ounces (this is your baby needs in this age)and continue to play with baby. This helps with the 'let-down' reflex to increase your milk supply.
